In an emergency, response time can mean the difference between life and death. But even when it’s not life-threatening, it’s the assistance, compassion, and care that strengthen a community.

In the Matlabas Conservancy, every individual matters. We are a tight-knit community, forged through years of weathering the elements together.

 

While technology can help connect us, out here in the bush, radio communication remains the most reliable lifeline and even then, not everyone has access to one. So when the radio crackles and a call for help comes through, we need boots on the ground immediately.

Distances between neighbours are often vast, the roads challenging even on a good day, and sometimes impassable during the rainy season. When someone calls for help, our first responders likely know the person by name. It’s in our nature to come to each other's aid.
